The Centre for Reconstruction and Development is an autonomous non-governmental professional organisation registered in Bamenda as a non-profit. Our mission is the advancement of the rights of poor and vulnerable people in the society to achieve social change. CREDEV work's with and for marginalized, disadvantaged and underprivileged communities to reduce poverty through advocacy for their development needs. CREDEV is a Professional Development Organisation (PDO) whose aim is to advance development through advocacy within the frameworks of the Universal Declaration of Human rights adopted by the United Nations in 1948. The preamble of the declaration begins with these words: Whereas rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world. Declaration on the Right to Development, Article 1, 1986."The right to development is an inalienable human right by virtue of which every human person and all peoples are entitled to participate in, contribute to, and enjoy economic, social, cultural and political development, in which all human rights and fundamental freedoms can be fully realized." Thus, the furtherance of human rights, minority rights, environmental justice, social and economic rights, women’s rights and children’s rights are the guiding frameworks of our very existence. We are not a membership organisation, but opened to partnership with civil society organisations and institutions whose ideology equally foster development and the rights of vulnerable poor communities thereof. Moreover we are not primarily a charity organisation or trust, but a development and humanitarian organisation, whose principles of operation are underpinned by the aspirations of international development. CREDEV therefore design's programmes, builds the capacity of these groups of people and manages its implementation together, transferring post-project management skills to the community. This allows them to take decisions that reflect on their strengths and weaknesses without great external influence improving their livelihoods.
